Physiotherapist, Exercise Scientist and Functional Therapist
Melanie is a Physiotherapist, Exercise Scientist and Functional Therapist but a large part of her vocational success is that she understands her role entails being a wellness negotiator, educator and motivator. There is a minefield of treatment options, exercise beliefs and lifestyle choices. Her role is to guide and motivate people to their best fit of recovery and at times acceptance, but with a positive mindset. She works primarily in rehabilitation and public speaking. Her primary work is as a therapist and educator in orthopaedic, musculoskeletal, chronic injury patients and pain management. This allows her to focus her skills as a Functional Therapist working with patients to improve their physical and mental conditioning by using patient goal-orientated physical and educational programs to achieve self-management. She believes the more physical facts you know and the more demystified the medical process, the more people are empowered to manage their physical health and goals. Whatever role she is working in, she is a teacher and love’s promoting health and the wonder of human anatomy and physiology to all ages. She has the most complex and exciting of careers. Sharing her tips and tricks and empowering life changes in people who are ill or unwell or just plain curious forms the basis for all of her therapy and educational endeavours. Her work is more than just treatment techniques, it centres around treating what I see as the 3 "B"'s of the troublesome body - the body's Behaviour, it's given Biology and the Belief's of it's owner about their aches and pains and how and why it got there in the first place and what you are choosing to do about it! She provides education and health commentary to schools, corporate and the media and relishes talking about serious or quirky physical facts that encourage people to think and reassess how they are addressing their health.”
